Osteopathy
Osteopaths are qualified to degree level and are recognised allied health professionals by the NHS in England and maintain a professional registration with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).
Osteopathy is a process specialising in diagnosing, treating a wide range of medical health conditions, and preventing musculoskeletal disorders. Our aim as osteopaths at New Forest Sports Massage Clinic is to restore the normal function and stability of your joints to encourage the body to heal itself. Osteopaths are trained to identify any serious conditions that may appear musculoskeletal but perhaps are not. In this case we would refer a patient to another health practitioner for further investigations and tests to get a further understanding of their problem.
Treatment is patient-focused and hands-on involving numerous skilled techniques, from joint manipulation (spine to peripheral joints) to soft tissue massage (ligaments, tendons, muscles) and stretching, all to promote an efficient functioning mind, body, and spirit as osteopaths look to treat the whole person.
In the professional opinion of your osteopath, they may extend the treatment to offering self-help advice on lifestyle changes to support your recovery.

Advanced Medical Acupuncture
Medical acupuncture (MA) at New Forest Sports Massage Clinic or otherwise known as dry needling is used to relive pain.
After a discussion with your practitioner and with your consent during your appointment the practitioner will inset small stainless-steel needles into the area of complaint. The needles remain in the ‘trigger point’ area of the tissue (Muscle/Tendon) for a small time before they are removed. Overall, the aim is to improve flexibility and range of movement. Most patients report not feeling the needle being inserted or removed, they are that thin!
Benefits of MA can aid relive from headaches, muscle pains both acute and chronic presentations, rotator cuff injuries, epicondylalgia (elbow pain) and Achille tendinitis.
Research currently shows MA to have a positive effect on relieving mild to moderate pain.
Kinesiology Taping
Along with Medical Acupuncture the team at New Forest Sports Massage integrate this beneficial ‘tool’ when required. You may have seen athletes wearing bright coloured tape of their body when they are playing sport, this is Kinesiology taping.
Kinesiology taping is applied lightly to the skin, lasting 3-4 days, it is shower proof. The taping is beneficial for providing extra support to a joint but does not restrict the movement, facilitates lymphatic drainage and reducing pain. Patients have found this highly beneficial when recovering from muscle strains/sprains, tendinitis (where your tendons attaching muscle to bone are unable to recover due to overuse and poor blood supply) and conditions such as plantar fasciitis.
Cupping
Here at New Forest Sports Massage, we can offer cupping therapy as part of a sports massage or osteopathic treatment. This treatment can help with pain relief, improve circulation, improve circulation to mature scar tissue, decrease inflammation and reduce the symptoms of stress.
Cupping therapy involves using glass cups placed on the skin and creating a suction on the body. This suction increases the space between the layers of the skin stimulating blood to this area. With more blood comes more oxygen and nutrients with natural healing properties to heal the affected tissue.
